Navigating the Digital World Safely

Technology has become an essential part of everyday life, helping us connect with others, access information, work, learn, and build relationships. As technology continues to evolve, however, so do the ways it can be used to harm, manipulate, or control others. Digital violence is a growing issue that can affect people of all ages and backgrounds, impacting personal safety, privacy, relationships, emotional well-being, and mental health.

Join the Counselling Centre of East Algoma for a free community presentation exploring how technology is changing the landscape of violence and abuse. This informative and engaging session will help participants better understand digital violence, recognize common risks, and learn practical strategies to protect themselves, their families, and their communities in an increasingly connected world.

Why Attend?

Digital violence extends far beyond cyberbullying. It can include online harassment, cyberstalking, image-based abuse, identity theft, scams and fraud, technology-facilitated coercive control, online exploitation, and the misuse of artificial intelligence. Understanding these issues is an important step toward preventing harm and promoting safer online experiences.

During this presentation, participants will:

  • Learn what digital violence is and how it affects individuals, families, and communities.

  • Recognize common forms of online abuse, scams, and technology-facilitated harm.

  • Understand the connection between digital abuse, relationships, and mental well-being.

  • Explore practical strategies to improve online safety and protect personal information.

  • Gain confidence in responding to concerns and supporting someone experiencing digital abuse.

  • Learn about available resources and supports within the community.

Whether you are a parent, caregiver, educator, service provider, youth, older adult, or community member, this presentation offers valuable information and practical tools to help you navigate today's digital world with greater awareness, confidence, and safety.

This presentation is free to attend. Registration is encouraged to help us prepare enough seating, snacks, and refreshments for everyone.
