History

cornerstoneBerkshire Counselling Centre (BCC) is a registered charity that has been providing a counselling service to the community since its formation in 1987 as the Wokingham and District Counselling Service. In 1990 we became a member of WPF therapy and also embarked on training counsellors to Diploma level.

In 2003 the name was changed to represent its continuing development and ability to provide counselling services within Berkshire. Demand for our service also meant that we move to larger offices at the Cornerstone.

Professional standards and our commitment to providing high quality affordable counselling means that BCC is currently managed by a professional team dedicated to managing the internal and external aspects of the charity. This team is in turn overseen by our board of trustees and supported by our network of volunteer counsellors.

We currently have approximately thirty-five qualified counsellors committed to the service. We also have students offering counselling when they have reached an appropriate level in their training.

We are an Accredited Member of BACP, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and as a contributing Member of their Service Accreditation Scheme strictly apply and support their Ethical Framework for good practice in Counselling and Pychotherapy.

BCC's counselling services are aimed at helping people suffering from depression, low self-esteem and anxiety which may arise from relationship problems, unemployment, bereavement or financial, media and lifestyle pressures.
The Centre also provides a range of supportive therapies and runs regular Training Courses for suitable candidates seeking to develop a career in the field of Clinical Counselling and Psychotherapy.

BCC is a member of WPF (Westminster Pastoral Foundation Network) and an Accredited provider of WPF training courses.

The Centre is qualified to run Professional Development Courses that contribute to BACP Accreditation and Short Term Training Courses for those working within an Agency setting or within Support Groups
